Department of Botany

Department of Botany, Govt. Degree College, Arki came into existence in 2004 with the introduction of Bachelor of Science stream. As Botany deals with the study of different processes going on in plants, the course in Botany encourages students to keep abreast of as many developments as possible in Plant Sciences. Studies in Classical Botany deal with plant diversity, morphology, anatomy, taxonomy, systematic, physiology, embryology, ecology, genetics, economic botany, etc. and provide solutions to agricultural, horticultural and environmental problems. By the study of the fundamental details of plants, students can understand growth and development, reproduction, life cycle, medicinal values and economic importance of plants. This course being an important component of Life Sciences offers immense opportunities in other related fields and applied disciplines such as Biotechnology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, plant breeding and many others. Department of Botany also offers some ability enhancement courses, such as biofertilizer production, gardening and floriculture, ethnobotany and medicinal plants and Mushroom cultivation technology keeping in view of self employability of students.

Department of Chemistry

The department of Chemistry came into existence in the year 2001 when the classes in Science stream began at Government College Arki. Since then the department has achieved excellence in providing basic Science education to its student at UG level. The department has two well equipped laboratories to acquaint the students with latest curriculum and trends in the field of chemistry. There are two sanctioned post of faculty members. Besides this there is one post each of JLA and SLA for maintaining various stocks and general facilities in the department. Many students after passing out as science graduates from this college has made it to the state Universities for pursuing Masters Degree.

Department of English

In today's age of globalization, information and technology, English as 'lingua franca' plays a predominant role in the growth and development of society.

Having this understanding, the Department of English of Govt. Degree College Arki endeavours to evolve more effective and culture specific innovative pedagogy for classroom teaching to cater to the multi-layered complexion of the students. The faculty teaches students to think critically about their use of the English language, both spoken and on the page. Students learn how to read a variety of texts literally, aesthetically, analytically and historically.

The department works to achieve its goals by fostering substantial understanding of literature in English from various genres and time periods and by teaching students to comprehend the relation between literature and culture as well as the structure and history of the English language itself. The department is committed to inculcate effective communication skills in students to enhance their employability.

Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, Govt Degree College Arki is well known for its dedication towards excellence in teaching and research. The Department is very well equipped with state of art teaching aids and smart classroom.

The Department aims to create a solid foundation for the assimilation of mathematical concepts and structures and build mathematical skills like creative, logical and analytical thinking. The Department has two faculty members. The faculty members are actively engaged in teaching, research and extension activities.

Department of Geography

Department of Geography of Govt. College Arki, Distt. Solan, H.P. is one of the oldest departments of the college. Today 2 teaching posts of Assistant professor is sanctioned and they teach about 80 undergraduate students. The department offersBachelor of Arts Pass course in Geography and its syllabus is developed & updated by the board of studies department of Geography, Himachal Pradesh University Shimla, H.P.

The department is very well equipped with teaching aids, smart class room, a fully equipped Cartographic Laboratory along with Geographical Information System Lab. Labs of the department are equipped with latest maps and models to help students learn better.

Department of History

The Department of History established in govt college Arki is enriched by a competent and committed faculty. Department offers three year undergraduate and two year postgraduate programs for the students. The faculty members engage students in diverse ways by teaching and mentoring. There is a constant interface between students and teachers within and beyond the classroom which helps them to understand issues in a more nuanced manner and comprehend, analyze and interpret their subject and their passage of life with dexterity and humanness.

Department of Sanskrit

The department of Sanskrit is one of the oldest department among the humanities subjects of government college Arki. It it has been established with the inception of college in 1994. A very large number of the students opt for political science as an elective subject. The department offers compulsrory and elective courses affiliated to HP University Shimla. The objectives of the discipline are to make students familiarize with ancient knowledge and wisdom writ in Sanskrit language.

Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce at Government Degree College Arki Solan HP is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enriching educational experience to students pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degrees. Our mission is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical values necessary to excel in the dynamic field of commerce, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to society and the economy.

Department of Computer Applications

The department of BCA came into existence in the year 2011 when the classes of BCA began at GDC ARKI. Since then the department has achieved excellence in providing basic computer education to its students at UG level. BCA department aims to make a place at both national and international level by providing high quality ethically computer application engineers with the ability to adapt the upcoming challenges in information technologies and their applications to cater to the ever changing industrial and societal needs. The department has a team of passionate academic staff. The department has four faculty members.

Department of Economics

Economics is highly reputed and well recognised in the college and industry. It introduces students to the basics of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Quantitative techniques, Development Economics, and other specialised areas like Public Finance, International Trade, Money and Financial Markets, and the Indian Economy. Elective courses that are offered to students, have been judiciously selected bearing in mind the industrial demands and a multidisciplinary framework ensuring a wide diversity of courses across the field of Economics.

Department of Music

The Department of Music (Inst) is one of the oldest departments of Govt. College Arki, Solan since 1996. GC Arki offers Bachelor of Arts with Music as one of the subjects for under graduate students. The music department aims to help the aspirants build a career in the field of music and arts. The course consists of electives or specializations such as classical music, Hindustani music, western, vocals, etc. The undergraduate course in Music course aims to ensure that all the important aspects of music and art course ensuring that the students are able to learn all the skills.

Department of Physics

The Science Stream was started in 1999 for offering Bachelor of Science as an elective subject. Since the inception of science stream, the physics department has evolved to meet the institution's needs and has strengthened its faculty. Currently, the department is staffed by two faculty members. It offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Physics. The strength of the Physics Department lies in its dedicated and highly qualified faculty and staff who are committed to hard work and excellence.

Department of Political Science

The department of political science is one of the oldest and most popular department among the humanities subjects of government college Arki. It it has been established with the inception of college in 1994. A very large number of the students opt for political science as an elective subject. The course offered by the department are affiliated to HP University Shimla.

Department of Sociology

Department of Sociology is one of the most vibrant & fast evolving departments of Govt. College Arki, Distt Solan, HP. The department has two sanctioned posts of teachers who cater to the academic needs of about seventy students enrolled in the UG classes. The department offers ‘Bachelor of Arts’ Pass course in Sociology in accordance with the syllabi framed & devised by the board of studies, department of Sociology, Himachal Pradesh University Shimla HP.

Department of Zoology

The Department of Zoology, established in 2004 along with the commencement of science stream in the college. The department helps to train students to respond to the global challenges and the needs of the Indian society in particular, through education in the areas of General Biology, Invertebrate and Vertebrate Zoology; Animal Developmental Biology, Genetics, Evolutionary biology, Reproductive Biology, Applied Zoology, General Physiology and Insect Vectors and Diseases.

The Department of Public Administration, GDC Arki, Solan was established in the year 1994. At present, the department consists of 1-faculty members teaching students of undergraduate course. The Department is committed to set and achieve highest academic standards.
